Attorney Mark Zaidman said the complaint filed by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C., was “nonsense” and “baseless” and that the president was “not aware” of the meeting.
Trump Jr. met with Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016 in a Trump Tower meeting about the adoption of Russian children.
She promised dirt on Hillary Clinton and other Democrats to be shared with the campaign.
Trump Jr. said the meeting was set up to obtain damaging information about Clinton.
The complaint, which was filed with the court last month, says the Trump campaign is trying to influence the election.
Zaidmans defense team said the filing was part of a coordinated effort by Trump’s legal team to discredit the president.
The lawyer for Trump’s oldest son, Eric Trump, defended his father’s conduct in the meeting and said the allegations were not accurate.
Eric Trump said the president did not know of the Veselnitkaya meeting until it was publicized.
Eric Trump said he believes the president is “not involved in this at all.”
He also said he is not aware of the president’s lawyer having filed a complaint about him.
The attorney for the president, Marc Kasowitz, also called the complaint “numerous and unfounded.”
