Lawyers who have used their position to help white people in racial discrimination lawsuits are being accused of using their personal connections to advance their career, according to a report from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).
The law firm that represented Randy Parker, a white law professor who is being sued by the University of Missouri over his racially insensitive Halloween costume, was once a member of a legal team that represented a black lawyer who was being sued for violating her right to privacy by having a private investigator investigate her sexual harassment allegations against him.
A Lawyers and Professionals for Justice (L&P) law firm was also a firm that represented Michael O’Neil, who was accused of making unwanted sexual advances towards a female law student in Missouri.
The L&P firm has been implicated in a number of racial discrimination cases, including a suit that died for racial discrimination against an African-American law student who was accused of lying about her race when she was denied employment by the law firm.
In the new report, HRC is calling on the law firm to apologize and immediately retract their actions and apologize to RANDY PARKER, MISSOURI LAWYER, AND THE MISSION TO STOP RACIAL DISCRIMINATION.
“We are calling on L&Ps to immediately retract their racist and discriminatory practices, refrain from hiring new members of their professional services and stop engaging in racist and sexist conduct in the workplace,” the HRC report reads.
L&Ps are currently in the process of hiring a new executive director for their law service, which was previously led by former President Barbara Jordan.
Parker’s legal team has defended RUNY, a group of African American lawyers who received $5 million from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in 2015 to support their fight against restrictions on the speech of black people during a white state’s presidency.
But the minority law firm was suspended from working with RUNE, an organization that featured RUSH and FAST law students, despite being part of RISE a civil rights advocacy group.
RUTE is now being represented by R&P, a lawyer group that was involved in ROSE and RUPE cases.
